Q - Is there enough sunlight for Solar Hot Water in Western Canada?

A – Alberta and British Columbia receive more than enough sun to effectively use solar energy. Both provinces receive more sun than Germany and Japan, two of the countries leading the charge in solar adoption.

Q – Is Solar Hot Water a proven technology?

A – Solar Hot Water systems have been widely used all over the world for many years. Our supplier’s have patents on their products dating back to the mid 1990’s. Furthermore, though Canada has fallen behind in adopting Solar technologies, Canadian Solar manufacturers ship thousands of panels and hundreds of systems globally every year.

Q - How does a Solar Hot Water system help the environment?

A – A typical two panel Solar Hot Water system will reduce a household’s emissions by 1 ton per year for the next 20 years. To put it another way you would need to drive your car 25% less for the next 20 years to save the same amount of emissions.

Q – Does a Home owner have to change their lifestyle if they install a Solar Hot Water system?

A - One of the biggest advantages of Solar Hot Water systems is once they are installed you can put it out of your mind. The only things you will notice is your new smaller gas or electrical bill or perhaps the new found respect you garner from your friends and neighbours as they acknowledge the contribution you are making to the environment and towards building a sustainable community.

Q - How does a Solar Hot Water system work and what has to be installed at my house?

Q – Is there a chance I would ever be without hot water after the system is installed?

A – No, there will always be hot water available even in the rare event that the Solar Hot Water system is not functioning properly. The hot water will be provided by your existing hot water heating system.

Q – Are there government incentives available?

A – The Federal government offers a $1,250.00 rebate if you install a Solar Hot Water system through their ecoACTION program. In order to receive the incentive a home owner must have an energy evaluation of their home completed prior to and after installing the Solar Hot Water system. Q - What are the steps involved with purchasing and installing a Solar Hot Water system?

A – A typical purchase and install of a Solar Hot Water system involves 4 steps:

1. Contact KCP Energy and arrange for an ecoEnergy audit to be completed for your home.
2. Arrange for KCP Energy to review the energy audit report, complete a solar site survey and provide a quote.
3. The Solar Hot Water system is installed and commissioned by KCP Energy’s installation team.
4. A follow up ecoEnergy audit is completed and the incentive is provided directly to the Home owner.
